The Taliban's seizure of power in Afghanistan has forced hundreds of thousands of Afghans to flee since August 2021. 90 percent of the people have fled to the neighbouring states of Iran and Pakistan. Solidar Suisse is supporting the displaced with a new project in Peshawar, Pakistan.
SUPPORT FOR THE REFUGEES IN PESHAWAR
In order to support the newly arriving Afghan refugees, Solidar Suisse has implemented a new project in Pakistan. The project is run in cooperation with the local organisation SPADO – Sustainable Peace and Development Organisation – and is located in Peshawar. The large city belongs to the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is located on the most frequented border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which is why the area around Peshawar has developed into a nomadic settlement. Our project therefore aims to meet the basic needs of the refugees. Food packages containing rice, granulated sugar, oil, cereals, spices, tea and other items are distributed. In addition, hygiene and dignity kits are provided and the most important non-food items and kitchen utensils are made available.
