Earthquake victims
Early on Monday morning, 6 February, two strong earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 hit Turkey and northwestern Syria. An aftershock (RS 6.3) shook southern Turkey near the Syrian border two weeks later. It was the worst natural disaster in the region in the last 100 years: 60,000 people lost their lives, an estimated 23 million are affected, the humanitarian situation is catastrophic and will continue for a long time.
